LuLu Hypermarket launches ‘India Utsav’

Doha: LuLu Hypermarket, the largest and fastest-growing retail chain in the region, has launched a festival titled ‘India Utsav’ to celebrate 75th Independence Day of India along with all Indian fraternity worldwide.

The week-long festival dedicated to the Indian culinary and food tradition is showcasing the entire range of Indian food and cuisines, fresh vegetables and fruits, grocery lines and sarees among others with exciting offers.  

Ambassador of India to Qatar, H E Dr. Deepak Mittal, inaugurated the festival yesterday at Lulu Hypermarket, Al Gharafa. 

The event was attended by Director of Lulu Group International Dr. Mohamed Althaf and a host of eminent dignitaries from the ministries, QCCI, banks, retail and FMCG sectors.

Dr. Deepak Mittal said that India Utsav has been organised to mark the 75th Independence Day of India, which is indeed a celebration of very long partnership between Qatar and India.

“This journey has become possible because of the support of wise leadership of Qatar, Qatari people and Indian expatriate community in Qatar,” said Dr. Mittal. 

He said that the festival, India Utsav has been organised by Lulu Hypermarket, representing a very strong bond in food security initiatives.

“Our Prime Minister has spoken about ‘Think Local Go Global’, which is about connecting and building resilience supply chain for food security enhancing partnership between two countries We are so deeply interconnected to meet the requirements of each other and enhance people to people contact,” said Dr. Mittal.

He thanked Qatar for being great partner of India in energy security. 

“I would like to thank Lulu Hypermarket for this initiative for being brand ambassador of India in the entire region including Qatar. I appreciate Director of Lulu Group,” said Dr. Mittal. 

He also thanked Director of Lulu Group International Dr. Mohamed Althaf for being a wonderful brand ambassador of India, and the Lulu Hypermarket for being a torchbearer and flagbearer of India and Qatar.

Dr. Mohamed Althaf said that the festival is very special because it is being organised on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day. 

 “So we took initiative to offer a massive promotion of regional level under the festival,” said Dr. Althaf. 

“We are holding the festivals to celebrate Indian culinary heritage as one of the major bond between India and the Middle East including GCC and Qatar is food,” said Dr. Althaf. 

He said that the festival showcases food items from India, which accounts large portion of foods being consumed in Qatar. 

“India is a very important source of food for Qatar. By holding this event, we are not only showcasing food items from India but we would like to give a message to people that India’s food industry is evolving and keeping pace with fast development in food sector.”

Simultaneously, the inaugural ceremony of a promotion called ‘Indian Silk and Ethnic Wear’ was held at the Saree Section, which was inaugurated by Dr. Alpna Mittal, Ambassador’s wife. A wide assortment of pure natural and synthetic silk from India, including sarees, ready made garments and dress material were showcased fairly with good discounts.
