The FIFA World Cup Original Trophy tour in Qatar continued to draw huge crowds Saturday.

The tour started on Thursday, drawing a huge crowd on Thursday evening. The trophy also visited the Elderly Empowerment and Care Centre (Ehsan), Shafallah Centre and Msheireb Downtown Doha (Mohamed Bin Jassim House).

On Friday evening, excited football fans packed Asian Town Cricket Stadium to see the trophy as it continued its journey across Qatar. Earlier in the day, the trophy visited Dreama – a home for orphaned children – before being taken to Mohamed Bin Jassim House in Msheireb Downtown Doha.

Until May 10, Qatar is hosting a series of send-off events for the Original Trophy before it embarks on the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, which will return to Doha ahead of the opening match of Qatar 2022 at Al Bayt Stadium on November 21.

With fewer than 200 days to go until the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world, excitement for the tournament is reaching fever-pitch levels in Qatar and throughout the region.

Over the coming days, fans in Qatar will be able to catch a glimpse of the famous trophy as it visits tourist hotspots such as Souq Waqif and Msheireb Downtown Doha. The trophy will also be taken to various businesses and organisations, including in the health and education sectors.

On Sunday, it will be on display at Souq Waqif from 6-9pm, which will follow visits to Doha Festival City and Place Vendome Qatar earlier in the day.

Tomorrow, it will travel to Msheireb Downtown Doha (from 6-9pm), while a special send-off event for the trophy will be held at Katara - the Cultural Village on May 10. The Katara viewing will be from 5-9.30pm.

A host of special guests and football personalities will be present at all the public events – meaning extra excitement for the many fans who are sure to turn out. Fans will also be treated to a host of activities and have the chance to win tickets to the opening match of the tournament between Qatar and Ecuador.

The official spokesperson for the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Khaled al-Naama, expressed happiness at the success of the promotional trophy tour, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Al-Naama said, "We chose to be in Asian Town, believing that workers are an essential part of developing infrastructure and implementing various projects, whether it is the World Cup or others. We wanted to take advantage of the Eid holiday period to share this moment with them and give them the opportunity to take pictures with the Cup."
