Workshop on national plan against oil pollution kicks off

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Industrial Inspection and Pollution Control, is currently organizing a workshop to discuss the initial draft of the national plan to combat oil pollution and pollution by dangerous and harmful substances, and its activities will continue until August 22.

In this regard, the Department of Industrial Inspection and Pollution Control is writing a national plan regulating the work of bodies responding to oil pollution incidents and incidents of pollution with hazardous and harmful substances, in cooperation with an international company specialized in this field, knowing that this plan is one of the main requirements of the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation in the field of oil pollution and its protocols.

The Director of the Department of Industrial Inspection and Pollution Control at the Ministry Dr. Muhammad Ayed Al Shimmari, said in a speech at the beginning of the workshop, that this workshop aims to prepare the national plan to combat oil pollution and pollution by hazardous and harmful substances in coordination with the concerned authorities to reach a comprehensive national plan that regulates roles between the competent authorities.

In this field, for rapid response in the event of oil spills or hazardous and harmful substances in Qatari waters.
