Waterhole near Simaisma beach turns orange

Doha: A water body near Simaisma women's beach has changed into orange colour. A Twitter user posted a video of the water body in orange colour. It is not yet known what caused this strange phenomenon.

“Near the Simaisma women's beach there are two marsh waterholes, one of which has changed colour remarkably recently from the normal colour to orange!” he tweeted tagging the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC).

The Ministry replied to the user that the matter has been registered and transferred to the concerned authority.

Last year a pink water body found in the north of Qatar had become a viral topic on social media after some Twitter users posted pictures and videos of the same. Officials from Ministry of Environment had collected sample from the stream for further study and tests.

Some environmental enthusiasts commented that due to lack of rain the water become salty and the temperature in it was high. So, types of bacteria and algae that love to live in salt water were activated in it and secreted a pink substance that caused the water to turn pink. This information was not officially verified by scientists or officials.
