US pavilion hosts a treasure trove of over 7,000 books

At the conclusion of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture, and as the two nations celebrate 50 years of bilateral relations, the US Embassy is participating as the guest of honour in the 31st annual Doha International Book Fair, taking place from Thursday. Staged front and centre at the entrance of Hall 3 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, the US booth joins the Ministry of Culture in promoting this year’s theme, “Knowledge is Light.” Designed by celebrated Arab-American designer Christina Khater, the US booth’s futuristic design showcases how literacy and learning are key tools for innovation and enabling humanity to reach its highest potential.

A celebration of American literature and culture, the US booth boasts a record inventory of over 7,000 books for purchase at discounted prices. Several US publishers are also represented in other booths at the event. Book categories by renowned American authors include everything from children's books to bestsellers. Commenting on the excitement of the return of the Fair this year, chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy, Natalie A Baker stated, “As we join the people of Qatar over the next week and a half to celebrate literacy and learning, our goal during the 31st Doha International Book Fair is to encourage literacy, professional development, and academic exchange between our two nations.”

In addition to the thousands of books for sale at the US booth, the US Embassy plans to hold daily activities, including film showings, EducationUSA advising, and consular information sessions. The US Air Forces Band will play a range of music on January 16 at 8.10pm.
