Unsettled weather expected during weekend: Met

Unsettled weather conditions are expected in the country during the weekend, the Qatar Met department has said.

In a report posted on social media on Tuesday, the department said weather charts indicate that the country will be affected by southeasterly to southwesterly winds during the daytime from Thursday  .

The wind speed will range from 15-25 knots, gusting to 30 knots in some places at times and resulting in blowing dust.

There will be a rise in the maximum temperature, ranging from 25-32C, while the weather will remain relatively cold at night.

The report states that northwesterly winds are expected to blow, from fresh to strong speed, from Thursday  evening until the beginning of next week.

The wind speed will range from 12-22 knots, with gusts exceeding 28 knots in some areas inshore and going up to 33 knots offshore.

The wave height will range from 5-8ft and rise to 11ft in some places.

The northwesterly winds will sometimes be accompanied by dusty weather, and there will also be a decrease in temperature.

The maximum is expected to range from 19-26C and the minimum from 9-18C, while the “apparent temperature” will be lower.

“Apparent temperature” is the temperature equivalent perceived by humans, caused by the combined effects of air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed, according to information available online.

Cloud cover is expected to gradually increase in the country over the weekend, and the weather will be partly cloudy with chances of scattered rain Thursday  and on Friday, which may at times become thundery offshore, the report adds.

The Met department has called on everyone to be careful and avoid marine activities during this period as well as to follow the latest weather updates through its official accounts.
