‘Travellers cannot carry medications containing narcotics’

Travellers are not allowed to carry medications containing narcotics or psychotropic substances except in accordance with the controls and conditions issued by the authorities concerned.

“It is not allowed to the arriving or departing sick travellers to carry drugs containing narcotics or psychotropic substances except in accordance with the controls and conditions issued by the relevant authorities,” the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement said.

The Department also emphasised that the traveller  should hold a detailed and attested medical report issued  within the past six months by the hospital that treated the patient.

This information was shared yesterday during an awareness webinar on prevention of drugs.

The event was organised by the Public Relations Department in association with the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement. People from HR, finance, safety, security, the public and private companies, schools, and the heads and representatives of expat communities attended the event. Addressing the webinar, an officer from the Department explained the procedures and restrictions for carrying medicines into Qatar, the risks of carrying others luggage and the risk of hiding crimes and the penalties stipulated by the law on drug abuse, importing, possessing, manufacturing or transporting narcotic drugs and dangerous psychotropic substances.

“Do not carry any materials of others without making sure of their content, because that bears full legal responsibility if these materials are prohibited in the country,” the officer advised the public. He also urged people to avoid bringing any suspicious substances or drugs because some narcotic substances and medicines may be allowed to be used in one country but are prohibited in Qatar.

Regarding the groups most vulnerable to drug addiction, he said they include people who suffer from family separation and associated  problems;  those who have an addict in their family; people in company of bad friends; and those with deviant behaviour, among others.
