The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced traffic diversions on Dukhan Highway from March 27 for renovation works.

Traffic on Dukhan Road will be diverted to an alternative three-lane road to facilitate Dukhan Highway East construction project, Ashghal said yesterday.

Works will be implemented in two stages: Stage 1 will be carried out during the early hours of Friday and will include the closure of a 1600-metre two-lane road between Bani Hajer Roundabout and the interchange opposite Al Wajba Palace.

A three-lane alternative road will be provided north of Dukhan Road to serve traffic from Bani Hajer Roundabout towards the interchange opposite Al Wajba Palace. Stage 2 is expected to be implemented by the middle of next month details of which will be announced later.

As part of the planning process, Ashghal assessed the current road use to develop alternative routes and reduce the impact of diversions on traffic.

Diversions have been designed in accordance with the highest standards and requirements due to the magnitude of work that will go into the construction of Dukhan Road, including excavations that will stretch over many kilometres, said Ashghal.

Four signalised junctions will be used during the diversion to control traffic and enhance safety for motorists using alternative roads.

The Dukhan Highway East project, part of Expressway Programme, includes the construction of about 10km dual carriageway comprising four lanes in each direction with service and auxiliary roads along sections of the road.
