Traffic Dept holds graduation of sign language course

Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic celebrated yesterday the graduation of the second sign language course for other ranks. The course took place from September 12 to 30, 2021.

This comes within the annual plan of the Training and Development Section of the Traffic Awareness Department, with the participation of the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN).

The ceremony, which was held at the headquarters of the Traffic Department, was attended by Brig Mohamed Abdullah Al Shahwani, Acting Traffic Director-General; Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani Al Thani, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of QSRSN, and a number of directors and officers of the General Directorate of Traffic.

During the opening speech of the ceremony, First Lieutenant Fahd Mubarak Sheraida, Officer of the Communications and Traffic Media Office, explained that the course dealt with the basic skills of communicating with people with hearing and speech disabilities through sign language.

The participants got practical exercises that included conducting dialogues with trainers, and specialised training sessions on traffic terms in sign language and how to use them to facilitate procedures related to services and conducting awareness messages and other traffic work requirements.   Amir Al Mulla, Executive Director of QSRSN, expressed his hope for the continuation of cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Society to organise more courses in this regard, especially since the country is witnessing during the coming period many important events, foremost of which is the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

At the end of the ceremony, Brig Al Shahwani honoured the employees of QSRSN and Sheikh Dr Khalid presented certificates to the graduates who completed the course.
