Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has reminded tanker owners to install tracking devices before August 1, 2022 to permit their entry into sewage treatment plants.
Ashghal is reminding owners on its website. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) had earlier announced in February this year a new mandatory requirement for tankers to install tracking devices that will permit their entry into sewage treatment plants.
Applications were being accepted starting from March 1. Ashghal will stop allowing tankers that do not have tracking devices installed to enter the treatment plants as of August 1. The requirement aims to monitor the tankers and ensure that they discharge at designated plants and not in random or prohibited areas.
This will be in addition to controlling their movement during the FIFA World Cup 2022. The new device will contribute to monitoring the movement of tankers on an ongoing basis and help reduce violations of environmental laws. In addition, the new system will reduce the travel distance that tankers travel across Qatar by determining their locations and proximity to treatment plants, the Authority had said earlier.
Five months had been given to tanker owners, whether companies or individuals. Starting from August 1, 2022, Ashghal will stop accepting applications or renewing permits for tankers, and tankers will not be able to fill, or discharge treated water in its affiliated plants without providing evidence of a proven and effective tracking device. No tankers will be allowed entry without an installed tracking device after this period.
Tanker owners who request tracking device installation are given a SIM card for each tanker through Ashghal Customer Service, Salwa Road branch. On receiving the SIM card, the tanker owners are required to complete all data mentioned in the form provided and send it to the following e-mail: avltankersupport@ashghal.gov.qa.
The device is linked with the vehicle tracking system in Ashghal as soon as the information is provided by email.
