Thundery rain, strong winds forecast for Wednesday

Thundery rain is expected in parts of the country on Wednesday along with spells of strong winds, the Qatar Met department has said.

The weather office has issued a warning for similar conditions in offshore areas, too.

In a statement on social media on Tuesday, the Met department said scattered light rain had been detected in the northern areas along with partly cloudy skies.

The chances of rain were expected to improve over the next two days, extending gradually over most parts of the country, it said, noting that the rain might become thundery at times. Also, these conditions were likely to continue until Friday, the statement added.

On Wednesday, the wind speed may at times go up to 25 knots both inshore and offshore during thundershowers.

It will be hazy in some inshore areas in the early hours of the day, followed by mild daytime conditions.

Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions have also been forecast and there is a chance of scattered rain, which may become thundery at times.

Hazy and partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are likely in offshore areas, too, along with scattered rain - which may be accompanied by thunder in some places occasionally.

Meanwhile, a minimum temperature of 18C is likely on Wednesday in Abu Samra and 23C in Doha. The maximum, on the other hand, will be 31C in Doha.

On Tuesday, a minimum temperature of 18C was recorded in Abu Samra and Karana, while in Doha it was 23C.

The Met department had recently reported that the chances of rain were expected to improve by this weekend and there would also be a “noticeable drop” in temperature in the coming period, especially early next week.
