Doha: Thriller films top Doha cinemas this week in addition to horror and science fiction films of international stars.
Among the films this week, the most talked about by film aficionados is the horror and suspense movie "Halloween Kills", which revolves around a woman named Laurie who escaped death at the hands of the killer Michael Myers and then decides to join a group of survivors in an attempt to form a team to hunt down the killer and get rid of him for good. The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer and is directed by David Gordon Green.
The thriller-drama "Flag Day" will also be screened this week, which is based on real events in the life of a man named John Vogel, who lives a double life of fraud, forgery and bank robbery, in between taking care of his daughter and providing her with all the comforts. The movie stars Dylan Penn, Josh Brolin and Katheryn Winnick and is directed by Sean Penn.
The cinema screens will also see the suspense and mystery movie "Endangered Species", which revolves around a wealthy American family who travels to the vast African wilderness in Kenya in hopes of spending a dream vacation full of interesting events, but soon nature attacks them and leaves the family trapped miles away from help, the film is directed by MJ Bassett, starring Rebecca Romijn, Philip Winchester, and Isabel Bassett.
Another action and suspense film seen in Doha cinemas is "Yakuza Princess". The story revolves around the heiress of the (Yakuza) gang who forges an uneasy alliance with an amnesiac stranger who believes an ancient sword binds their fates. She must unleash a war against the other half of the syndicate who wants her dead. The film stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Kenny Leu, and Eijiro Ozaki, and is directed by Vicente Amorim.
The list of new films also includes the science fiction movie "Cosmic Sin", which revolves around seven rogue soldiers launching a preemptive strike against a newly discovered alien civilization in the hopes of ending an interstellar war before it starts. The film is directed by Edward Drake, starring Bruce Willis, Frank Grillo, and Adelaide Kane.
As for children, there is the adventure and comedy movie "Ron's Gone Wrong" revolving around Barney, an awkward middle-schooler, and Ron, his new walking, talking, digitally connected device. Ron's malfunctions set against the backdrop of the social media age launch them on a journey to learn about true friendship. The film stars Zach Galifianakis, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Olivia Colman, and is directed by Sarah Smith and Jean-Philippe Vine.
