Things to do this weekend in Qatar (Dec 26-28, 2019)

The temperature is dipping and the weather is ideal for venturing out for some outdoor fun. There is Spring Festival at souqs and Mahaseel at Katara. We have listed a few interesting things you can do this weekend.

Watch rare solar eclipse at Al Thuraya Planetarium

You can watch the rare solar eclipse tomorrow at the Al Thuraya Planetarium. Katara has invited public to the planetarium at Building 41 to watch the Annular Solar Eclipse, which is a very rare phenomenon. The partial eclipse will start at 5:32am and will end at 7:50am with the maximum eclipse expected at 6:35am.

When: December 26 from 5:30am till 8:30am

Spring Festival at Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakrah

The festival includes circus show, parades and mind and skills games. Popular groups from different countries entertain visitors with cultural presentation such as folk dances and songs with the accompaniment of native musical instruments.

The festival features around 60 games and rides in the two souqs. Visitors can see wild animals like lion and tiger at the circus shows.

When: Until January 4; 4pm until 10pm.

Mahaseel Festival

The biggest edition of Mahaseel Festival is going on at Katara with more than 40 stalls to buy vegetables, flowers, honey, dairy and meat products offered by local companies at discounted prices.

There is also a large area where children can enjoy inflatables in addition to a giant tent where they can play various computer games such as VR games making the festival a one-stop-shop for families.

When: Open every day from 9am to 9pm until December 28, after which it will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until March 31.

Different Dimension: An Energetic Place

The exhibition showcases 11 fascinating works by contemporary abstract artist Hala El Attar and marks a number of firsts for the young artist. El Attar visually manifests energy through her unique take on fluid art integrating different mediums and styles to achieve artworks that burst with colour and life.

When: The exhibition is open for public viewing until January 20 from 10am to 10pm

Installation at Katara

Katara has a unique art installation in Building 22 that is open for public viewing until December 30. The highlight of this is an artwork that when seen from one view show the image of Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani then from another angle shows the Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Ukrainian contemporary artist Andrii ‘Abhinava’ Chernovil is considered one of the 10 spiritual artists of Ukraine and his latest show is the third solo exhibition in the country.

When: On until December 30; from 10 am to 10 pm.

Doha Burger Festival

The third edition of the burger festival begins today at the Aspire Zone. Ongoing till December 28, the festival is a must-visit for all the foodies in the country. What's more, there is fun competitions like Burger Olympics where 3 winners will get a chance to win various prizes.

Star Wars Activation Booth

Discover your side at the Star Wars Activation booth with the launch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! Doha Festival City has set up a total of eight zones with each zone having different activities. The booth is open to all ages and no purchase is required. It requires registration and is on first come first served.

When: December 12 – January 12, 2020; 3pm-10pm
