Things to do this weekend in Qatar (Dec 12-14, 2019)

As the weather gets cooler, the sports fever still continues; be it football, cricket or cycle relay for National Day. From Club World Cup to the world-famous Belgian Festival, all the events happening this weekend are listed below. Happy Weekend!

 

FIFA Club World Cup
As Al Sadd face Hienghene Sport at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium today (December 11), football fans in the country and those from around the globe are excited about the FIFA Club World Cup beingheld in Qatar for the first time.

The matches are on till December 21 with the finals being played at Khalifa International Stadium. 

Apart from the entertainment at tournament venues in Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium and Khalifa International Stadium, the Fan Zone at Doha Sports Park is a must-visit as it promises to be an incredible fanexperience with live matches, live music from amazing artists and DJs, food & beverages and football-themed activities.

Entry to the fan zone is free. 

When: Every day from December 9 - December 21; 2pm to 12am 

Where: Doha Sports Park (next to Doha Golf Club). Though parking is available; ticket holders will be able to commute free on Doha Metro on match days.

Qatar T10 League
Second highest Test-run scorer for South Africa Hashim Amla and former Pakistan captain Salman Butt are just two of the 24 international cricketers who are part of the six teams that will play Qatar T10 League.

The 10-day event, organised by Qatar Cricket Association, is the latest in the ICC calendar to promote the shorter formats of the game.    

When: On until December 16; 6:30pm-8:30pm & 9pm – 11pm

Daydream Festival
The world-famous Belgian festival, Daydream Festival is known for its theatrical decors and good atmosphere, and will be held in Qatar for the first time as a part of Qatar Live.

The festival promises totake visitors on a wonderful dream where time will have no meaning, through the magic of music.

A line-up of international DJ’s will be part of the Day One Live Act this weekend. The nine-hour show will see best DJ’s in dance and electronic music including Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Robin Schulz, Sam Feldt, Matt Sochon and Wankelmur.

Star Wars Activation Booth
Discover your side at the Star Wars Activation booth with the launch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker!

Doha Festival City has set up a total of eight zones with each zone having different activities. The booth is open to all ages and no purchase is required.

It requires registration and is on first come first served. 

When: December 12 – January 12, 2020; 3pm-10pm

Al Adaam Flag relay 
This weekend is the beginning of the third edition of the flag relay organised by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), as part of the country's celebrations of the National Day.

All residents have been invited to participate for the Al Adaam Relay that aims to attract 5,000 people from different segments of society in this year's tour. The Qatari flag tour will start from the headquarters of the Qatar Olympic Committee, through Doha Corniche and then Qatar Foundation and Katara Cultural District, to conclude the tour at Hamad International Airport at different timings. 

When: Friday, December 13

Where: Individuals can join the relay at the registered destination.

Darb Al Saai
The Darb Al Saai ground is all set to begin the Qatar National Day celebrations. The events will begin soon after the official opening ceremony on Thursday. Darb Al Saai will be open until December 20 and provides free entry for visitors.

Specific slots have been allotted to families and women, besides the general public. See the image above for timing and event each day.

Katara Dhow Festival
The annual Katara Traditional Dhow Festival started its 14 day festival in a festive atmosphere at Katara Beach.

The event is inspired by Qatar’s rich maritime heritage and celebrates history through cultural events. This year, the festival has witnessed the participation of 11 countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Turkey, India, Greece, Italy, Spain, Iran, and Zanzibar.

Traditional music and dance performances from different troupes add color to the festival which features a program packed with activities and events including exhibitions, traditional art, competitions, and cultural and recreational activities

When: December 3 – December 16, 2019 – (9:00 am - 10:00 pm)

Jaipur Literature Festival 
For the first time in the region, Qatar National Library, in partnership with Teamwork Arts, producer of the iconic annual Jaipur Literature Festival, will host a celebration of literature and the power of dialogue.

JLF Doha is the country’s first international literature festival of its kind, which will recreate the spirit, color, energy and ambiance of the Jaipur Literature Festival in India. With a packed weekend of events celebrating books, creativity, ideas and culture, the event will feature renowned authors and speakers.

When: December 12 to December 14; 6 to 8pm on Thursday | 3pm to 8pm on Friday | 10 am to 8pm on Saturday

A Winter Night of Classical Music
Katara in collaboration with the Embassy of the South Korea is hosting a classical music night “Song of Wind” from Korea at the Katara Cultural Village. No tickets, only registration is required.
