Temperature rises to 49C in Qatar

Scorching conditions continued in the country as a maximum temperature of 49C was recorded in Sudanthile, southern Qatar, Sunday, according to the Met department.

Monday's forecast says strong winds and poor visibility are expected in the country. Also, "hot to very hot" conditions will prevail during the daytime and dusty conditions are likely at times.

Windy conditions have also been forecast in offshore areas Monday along with high seas. It may also be dusty occasionally.

The wind speed may go up to 37 knots inshore and 35 knots offshore, with the sea level rising to 12ft at times.

Visibility, meanwhile, may drop to 2km or less in some places Monday.

The maximum temperature is expected to be 46C in Mesaieed and 44C in Doha, Wakra and Dukhan Monday.

Sunday, Sudanthile saw the highest temperature at 49C, followed by 48C in Mesaimeer, the Qatar University area, Mesaieed, Turayna and Mukaynis, 47C in Sheehaniya and Karana, and 46C in Doha (airport area), Al Khor and Jumayliya.
