Strong winds forecast for today

Strong winds are expected in most parts of the country today, the Qatar Met department has said.

The weather office has also issued a warning for strong winds and high seas in offshore areas today.

The wind speed (northwesterly) will range from 10-20 knots, going up to 26 knots in some places at times. Offshore, northwesterly winds will blow at 18-25 knots and reach a high of 30 knots occasionally, before dropping to 8-18 knots by late tonight. In a post on social media yesterday, the Met department said the marine warning would be in place until early tomorrow, urging people to avoid all sea activities during this period.

The detailed forecast for today says mild daytime conditions are expected inshore along with slight to blowing dust in some places at times as well as some clouds. It will be cold by night.

Visibility, meanwhile, may drop to 3km or less occasionally.

It will be hazy and cloudy in offshore areas at times and there is a chance of scattered rain in some places. Also, the sea level may rise to 10ft at times before decreasing to 3-6ft by late at night.

The minimum temperature today is expected to be 12C in Mesaieed and Wakrah, while in Doha it will be 17C. Yesterday, the minimum was 12C in Turayna and 19C in Doha.
