Strong winds, dip in mercury forecast for Thursday

Strong winds and poor visibility are expected in the country Thursday along with a dip in temperature, according to the weather forecast.

Windy conditions, high seas and poor visibility are also likely offshore Thursday.

The Qatar Met department has said the wind speed may go up to 48 knots offshore and 45 knots inshore at times Thursday, with the sea level rising to 15ft.

The detailed forecast also says dusty conditions are expected at times Thursday and it will become cold by night. Dust and some clouds are forecast for offshore areas, too.

Visibility, meanwhile, may drop to 2km or less at times.

The temperature is expected to range from 17-24C Thursday in Doha, as compared to a minimum of 23C and maximum of 29C recorded Wednesday.

Doha and other parts of the country experienced strong winds Wednesday, in line with a recent Met department report saying northwesterly winds are expected in the country from Wednesday afternoon until the beginning of next week, causing high waves and a drop in temperature.
