This year's Qatar National Day (QND) parade will feature spectacular infantry, naval and air displays with the military vehicles being kept away, the commander of the Military Parades Centre in the Armed Forces announced on Tuesday.

The parade on Saturday at 9am on the Doha Corniche will have a duration of about 52 minutes, explained Major-General Salem bin Fahad M al-Ahbabi, commander of the Military Performances and Music Centre and general co-ordinator and commander of the parade.

"This year we are implementing the same scenario for next year's Qatar National Day parade, which is to take place during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022," he said.

The parallel street will be set apart for services only.

The parade, to be telecast on national television, will start with the national anthem immediately after the arrival of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an, and the firing of 18 artillery rounds.

Next on the itinerary is a naval show.

Since the participating naval vessels cannot enter the waters in the Corniche area due to a lack of adequate depth, visuals of the marine parade will be telecast from the sea and displayed on screens on the Corniche.

The naval parade will feature many new units in addition to the Special Forces boats.

"Next will be the air show, with many big surprises," Major-General al-Ahbabi said.

The nearly 10 minute show will see the Amiri Air Force showcasing three new aircraft – the F-15 fighter, NH19 helicopters and Falcon evacuation aircraft, in addition to the Rafale and Typhoon fighters, Apache attack helicopters, and training aircraft belonging to the Al Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Attiya Air Academy.

The infantry parade will start with the Army, followed by the Air Force, Navy, Air Defence, Military Police, Border Corps, and National Service soldiers, Major-General al-Ahbabi added.
