The inauguration ceremony was attended by Netherlands ambassador Marjan Kamstra and the Ministry of Municipality's Public Parks Department director Mohamed al-Khouri.
Also present were a number of officials from the Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan), Ezdan Holding, Al Wakra Secondary School, Abdulrahman bin Jassim Preparatory School, Al Khansaa Prepartory School, and Al Wakra Municipality.
Kamstra lauded the project.
Al-Nuaimi explained that the project was implemented in response to the demands of Al Wakra inhabitants, especially the elderly who submitted a request to the municipality.
The project will benefit more than 33,000 people across the country and around 3,190 across Al Wakra.
The official said that the project was implemented in co-ordination with the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places that pertains to the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), and in co-operation with the private sector organisations as part of their social responsibility initiatives.
Mahmoud said that the walkway takes the users to the closest possible point to the sea shore.
It ends in an 8m diameter ring.
The project was executed in record time as work on it started only in the first week of this month.
She said that the idea of the project was based on a research by students of Al Khansaa Primary School for girls, in particular students Alaa Shaheen and Aiysha Issa.
The school's director, Hoda al-Obaidly, said the duo are Class VI students.
