Law enforcement officers at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) have detected five shops that had been selling or using expired products.

One of these is a shop in Al Wakrah that specialises in making cakes and ice-cream. The officers found that expired materials were being used to make food items.

Meanwhile, a supermarket in the Umm Salal area was found selling expired items, while two beauty parlours in Madinat al-Shamal were also found using expired materials.

Another beauty salon in the Old Airport area was using expired cosmetics, the officers found.

The revelations came during an intensive search campaign conducted by inspectors of the MEC’s Consumer Protection Department (CPD) in various parts of the country in co-ordination with the security entities concerned.

The CPD has urged consumers to report any such violations on the toll-free hotline - 8005000.
