Serbian, Vietnamese envoys laud Shura Council elections

Serbian ambassador Jasminko Pozderac stressed that the upcoming Shura Council elections Qatar is considered a vital and historic initiative that would further enhance the progress and development of the country.

"I am immensely pleased to see such a historic event taking place in Qatar and hopeful of the positive and fruitful outcomes of this move," he told Gulf Times.

"I have reviewed the laws and regulations of the election process, and sure that the winning candidates will certainly represent the true will of the Qatari people and are able to able to voice the hopes, demands and needs of the people to achieve the best for the whole country," the envoy said.

The historic first-ever elections of the Shura Council is to be held on October 2 as per Decree No. 40 of 2021 issued by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Sunday. The Shura Council election system law is in line with the Qatari Constitution and Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the participation of citizens in the decision-making process.

The wise leadership was keen, through the electoral law, for the Shura Council to be a true representative of the will of Qatari citizens.

The Serbian ambassador continued: "I am sure, fully in compliance with the highest democratic standards, rules and procedures, as well as in line with transparency standards, the Shura Council will be distinguished and unique in itself. Qatar is well known as a role model for the rule of law, and we are sure that it will be the case with the elections too.

"We have read the news that the registration percentage of the voters is high and soon the names of the candidates will be known to the public. We are eager to see the continuation of the election process in weeks and days to come. We are also confident that the Shura Council elections will contribute to the wellness of not only the Qatari citizens, but the whole population, including the numerous expatriate communities and that they will add to the already present harmony in Qatar and its society, that I am also proudly part of for more than five years.

"The Shura Council elections will not only have enormous political and broader significance for Qatar, but also for the rest of the Arab World. We are sure that the whole international community, including our country, will very thoroughly follow the elections and its outcome.

"I congratulate His Highness the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, citizens and residents for this significant political achievement, as Shura Council elections are a milestone achievement in the modern history of the country," he added.

Vietnamese ambassador Tran Duc Hung told Gulf Times he is sure that Qatar is making every effort to prepare for the upcoming Shura Council election and make the process a success for the best of the country and its future.

"This event is of great significance in maintaining an active body that represents all the Qatari people and promote their demands and hopes. It is a great achievement for both the country and its people and would certainly reflect positively on the future of the nation, enhancing its stability, safety and security.

"I congratulate Qatar on this special occasion and wish the country successful preparations for the great event. I believe that, under the wise guidance and leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and strong support of Qatari people, the Shura Council elections will achieve great success, ushering in a brighter future."
