Rain chances continue Friday

The Qatar Met department has said the chances of rain of variable intensity are expected to continue until Friday, which will take place intermittently and may become thundery at times.

"Please be careful, avoid marine activities and follow latest updates through our official social media accounts," it tweeted Thursday.

Doha and other parts of the country received rain Thursday, with thunderstorms reported from some areas.

Thursday's rain


In its detailed forecast for Friday, the weather office said thundery rain is again expected in some places Friday. It also issued a marine warning for thundershowers, strong winds and high seas Friday.

Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are expected and there is a possibility of scattered rain, which may turn thundery in some places at times. A similar forecast has been issued for offshore areas, too.

The wind speed may go up to 25 knots both offshore and inshore during thundershowers, with the direction northwesterly by the afternoon and evening, respectively.

The sea level, meanwhile, may rise to 8ft with thundery rain.

The Met department had earlier said there are chances of scattered rain in the country during this weekend, followed a spell of cold weather and strong winds.

The minimum temperature Friday is expected to be 16C in Wakrah, Mesaieed and Al Khor, 17C in Doha, Dukhan and Abu Samra, and 18C in Ruwais. The maximum, on the other hand, will range from 20C in Ruwais to 24C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, with Doha expected to see a high of 23C.

Thursday, a minimum temperature of 13C was recorded in Al Khor, Karana, Ghuwairiyah and Shehaimiya, followed by 14C in Mesaieed, Sheehaniya, Mukaynis, Dukhan, Abu Samra and Turayna, 15C in Jumailiyah, 16C in the Qatar University area and Umm Bab, and 17C in Doha (airport area), Wakrah, Mesaimeer and Ruwais. The maximum ranged from 20C to 23C around the country.
