QU students shortlisted for prestigious $1m startup award

Revive, a startup impact enterprise founded by Kateba al-Ghazali, Sumaya Yusuf and Nosheen Zehra from Qatar University has been shortlisted for the 2021 Hult Prize US$1m Challenge Regional Impact Summit.

In partnership with the United Nations Office of Partnerships, the Hult Prize Foundation organises the world’s largest startup programme aimed at social impact and offers a grand startup prize of $1,000,000 awarded by former US president Bill Clinton at the United Nations headquarters on an annual basis. Revive has beaten the odds, outperforming a record number of 350,000 programme participants who began the journey this past fall.

“It was an exciting experience to be in the first ever Hult Prize competition in Qatar. When we won the On Campus, we knew our idea is worth making a positive impact in this world and we look forward to the next steps to prove it again”, said Nosheen Zehra, co-founder of Revive.

QU students were in the top six teams out of a total of 60 teams after clearing the preliminary round of the Hult Impact Summit - Doha, on March 12. The team is now preparing for the next stage where they will present for the Wild Card Entry this April. They will pitch for a coveted spot in the Hult Prize Global Accelerator - a best in class programme, regularly ranking as the world’s number one accelerator for social impact.

“It is fascinating to see like-minded young entrepreneurs, representing 121 countries, coming together around the same mission. The Hult Impact Summits celebrate youth-driven impact and showcase thousands of SDGs aligned businesses addressing the UN-issued Hult Prize Food for Good Challenge,” said Hamdi Ben El Elmi, Hult Prize Foundation global head of programmes.

This year’s 2021 Hult Prize Challenge asks entrepreneurs to rethink food and build the foundations of a venture that will create jobs, stimulate economies, reimagine supply chains and improve the overall outcome for 10,000,000 people by 2030. Revive does that by preserving surplus food with new technology in Qatar and redistributing it to those in need.
