QM’s 3-2-1 Qatar & Olympic Sports Museum to be featured at La Biennale di Venezia

Doha: Qatar Museums, under the patronage of its Chairperson, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, announced yesterday that the 3-2-1 Qatar & Olympic Sports Museum will be featured in the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia through a special participation, titled “Sport Platform,” in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini della Biennale.

Conceived by principal architect Christoph Lechner of Architect Christoph Lechner and partners and coordinated by Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, the installation explores the question: How will we play sport together? It focuses on two mega sporting events — the Tokyo Olympics and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The exhibition features models of the eight football stadiums, on loan by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.

Sheikha Al Mayassa is also Chair of the Honorary Committee for The Majlis exhibition, which has made its international debut on 21 May 2021 in the wildflower gardens of the Abbazia di San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. 

The project, curated by Dr. Thierry Morel and organised by Caravane Earth foundation is one of the official collateral events of the Biennale Architettura 2021 titled How will we live together? 

The unique bamboo Majlis, designed by internationally acclaimed bamboo architects Simón Vélez and Stefana Simic, is designed to be a community meeting place and a centre for vernacular architecture and traditional construction skill. Caravane Earth is an international foundation that aims to promote social, cultural and ecological transformation. Following its presentation in Venice, The Majlis exhibition will travel to Doha.

Qatar Museums is also the major donor for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. The exhibition, How will we live together? is curated by Hashim Sarkis and organized by La Biennale di Venezia.
