Doha: A high-level delegation headed by Khalifa jassim Al Kuwari Director General of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) initiated an inspection tour for the Fund’s health projects in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The inspection included the projects of the Zaatari camp, where the delegation visited health care centres and hospitals providing various health services to Syrian refugees, which the QFFD contributes to its financing.
The strategic partners in Qatar Charity (QC) and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) also briefed the QFFD delegation on the most important developments regarding health centres and its functioning in the Zaatari camp, in addition to highlighting the ongoing coordination between the QC and the QRCS to ensure comprehensive health care support in the camp.
The existing medical support comes in various forms, including the provision of primary health-care services and referral services to specialised advisory facilities, namely specialised post-referral health care after receiving primary and secondary care, including direct support through the provision of equipment and supplies, capacity-building and boosting the healthcare system.
The priorities also include strengthening infectious disease surveillance, detection, response and prevention of these diseases, and ensure access to chronic disease treatment services.
The Zaatari camp, hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is the second largest refugee camp in the world, hosting nearly 77,000 Syrian refugees, knowing that half of the Syrian refugees based in Jordan are children.
With the increasing pressures on healthcare systems and infrastructure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing number of refugees, the priority now is to generally amplify the capacity of healthcare services in host countries, with the aim of enabling these states to effectively provide appropriate medical services to Syrian refugees and host communities alike.
The visit also included an inspection of the projects of the Jordan Health Fund for Refugees (JHFR), financed by the QFFD in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Health in Jordan.
It is noteworthy that this inspection field visit is not the first-of-its-kind, but it is rather a part of periodic visits that take place from time to time with the aim of following up the progress of projects in an effective and sustainable manner, with a special focus on reaching the target groups and the most needy persons, and ensuring the achievement of transparency and quality standards.
