HE Salah bin Ghanim bin Nasser al-Ali, Minister of Sport and Youth, has honoured Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma bint al-Thani with the 'GCC Excellence Decoration' in recognition of her positive contributions to youth work.
Sheikha Asma recently became the first Qatari woman to reach the summit of Mt Everest, and is also the first Arab to reach the summit of Mt Kangchenjunga – the world’s third highest mountain. In January, she became the first Qatari to ski to both the North and South poles.
She also scaled Mt Lhotse less than 24 hours after reaching the summit of Mt Everest.
