Qatari Forum for Authors discusses alternative communications during social distancing

Doha: The Qatari Forum for Authors has discussed remotely the concept of alternative communications during social distancing which was imposed following the state prevent and precaution measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The activities of the Forum will continue during the holy month of Ramadan, with the aim of promoting cultural and intellectual communication with its members, through a set of initiatives and meetings with writers and researchers in various fields of knowledge, said a release issued by the Forum.

The Qatari Forum for Authors hosted a journalist and writer, Hessa Al Suwaidi, who presented the first episode of its weekly series of initiative, ‘I chose you from my library’ programme.

“The social distance which requires us to sit at home invites us to rethink the concepts of mutual communication between us and the nature of lifestyles, as we cannot think of ourselves as an island isolated from the world,” said Al Suwaidi.

She said that this is an opportunity to expand perceptions and ways of thinking, through answering to a set of fundamental questions such as: How do we make our behaviors in this period and beyond for our benefit and not against us, and how do we contain the life situations that we smartly experience on the level of ourselves and others from family members, friends and others.

Hessa Al Suwaidi chose Danielle Goleman’s book ‘Emotional Intelligence’ to answer these questions, noting that logical intelligence may be controlled by our psychological states, moods, inclinations, desires, anger, fear, and joy, as these cases are internal engines, dependent on a person’s ability to understand his feelings.

She focused on the overall intelligence of the writer Daniel Goleman’s interest in emotional intelligence, which became his focus as a new idea regarding the components of success in life, so he took it as a topic for his book in 1995.

She said that the idea of Goleman reflected on various segments of the society including students and business consultants as the corporate managers recommended for studying the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership.
