Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has approved giving the Pfizer-Biontech Covid-19 vaccine for children from 5 to 11 years old and vaccines will be provided in all health centers as of today, Sunday, January 30, 2022.
The Ministry noted that the "Pfizer-Biontech" vaccine will be given to children from 5 to 11 years old - optional - in two doses, to vaccinate against the Covid-19 virus, with the second dose being given three weeks after the first dose.
The Ministry indicated that this approval comes in line with the latest local and international studies that showed the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine for this age group, in addition to the clinical evidence available from several countries from around the world that have already started vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.
The dose of vaccine will be one-third of that used for the older age groups.
The Ministry said in a statement that this step is very important to ensure the protection of children of this age group from the risks of Covid-19 infection, as the current wave with the spread of the highly contagious Omicron mutant saw infection in large numbers of children, and some cases required medical care compared to previous waves.
MoPH called on parents and guardians, in light of the continuing wave of Omicron mutant in Qatar, to ensure that their children between the age of 5 and 11 receive the vaccine to increase their immunity against this virus.
MoPH indicated that Covid-19 vaccines will be provided for children in all health centers of the Primary Health Care Corporation as of today, Sunday, January 30, 2022 and parents of children who are eligible to receive the vaccination can call the hotline of the Primary Health Care Corporation on 40277077 to book appointments to vaccinate their children, and health centers will also accept without appointment for this category.
