Qatar Rail inks 3 MoUs at Qitcom

Qatar Rail has signed three memorandum of understanding (MoU) with leading telecommunications providers in the country at Qitcom 2017 to help ensure future users of Doha Metro can stay connected while using the railway network.

The MoU were signed with Ooredoo, Qatar National Broadband Network, and Vodafone. Qatar Rail also became a member of the Qatar Innovation Community (QIC), an open platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration on innovation.

“Qatar Rail is responsible for delivering a truly landmark project for the nation which will not only provide the community with a new alternative mode of transport, but will also support the local economy,” said Abdulla Abdulaziz al-Subaie, managing director and CEO, Qatar Rail.

The agreement with QIC, he added, plays an important part in identifying and empowering home-grown talent. The company’s operations and maintenance director Abdulla Saif al-Sulaiti took part in a panel discussion titled “Innovative Ideas Transforming Transportation and Logistics,” where he tackled the importance of the state-of-the-art technology

applied in Qatar Rail’s projects.

He highlighted the effective role technology can play in improving the operations of railways and providing high-quality smart solutions to future users.

The company took the opportunity to engage with visitors and give them an insight on the sustainable public transport solution it will deliver.

The Qatar Rail booth at Qitcom showcased the smart technologies applied to designing and operating the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram projects.

Qatar Rail also bagged the Best Government Website in the Qatar Digital Government Excellence Award during Qitcom’s gala dinner.

“As this year’s Pearl Sponsor, we were delighted to see the exhibition and conference grow in both size and stature, and look forward to its continued prominence on the global stage,” said al-Subaie.
