Qatar prepares to give the best health care in FIFA 2022 World Cup: Official

In preparation to give the best healthcare experience ever during the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Ministry of Public Health and Hamad Medical Corporation will host Qatar Health 2022 and the 2nd Qatar Public Health Conference. 

‘Qatar Health 2022: Preparing for the 2022 World Cup and the response to pandemics in Qatar – a multidisciplinary team approach’ a virtual conference between February 9 and 12 will bring local and international experts together. 

“We are pleased to host local and international experts to give us insights as we approach the biggest sporting event later this year. Qatar Health 2022 sessions will display Qatar’s capabilities in the fields of mass gathering management, disaster medicine, infectious disease and trauma surgery. It will look into Qatar’s public health capabilities and preparations to host the successful FIFA World Cup 2022,” said Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Al Thani, Director of Public Health Department at Ministry of Public Health.  

“We focus in preparation to give the best healthcare experience ever been in a FIFA World Cup,” said Dr. Al Thani, who is also the Co-Chair, Qatar Health 2022 and 2nd Qatar Public Health Conference in a video message. 

According to Dr. Al Thani, Qatar Health 2022 will maintain a focus on preparations for providing quality care during mass gatherings and a pandemic response through a multidisciplinary team approach, best lessons and practice.  

He said that the 2nd Qatar Public Health sessions will provide unique insights into Qatar’s Public Health capabilities in its preparations and measures to host a successful FIFA World Cup 2022 considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

It will include topics related to Health Protection and Communicable Diseases, Health Promotion and Non-Communicable Diseases, Food Safety and Environmental Health, along with other priority areas in public health. 
Speakers during the conference will include Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, and Dr. David Nabarro, Special Envoy on COVID-19, at WHO. 

Qatar Health 2022 will offer a 3-day program, with multiple full and half-day tracks, preceded by 1-day of pre-conference workshops and symposia. It is dedicated to showcasing the work and opinions of leaders in their respective domains as well as the 112 abstracts that have been accepted for oral or poster presentation.

“2022 is special year in Qatar. As a healthcare provider we play a unique and important role in delivering the best FIFA World Cup the world has seen. While many teams have been working tirelessly to prepare for this, we do so in a different environment (due to the pandemic) than we never anticipated. 

“In this environment we want to ensure that our colleagues have access to latest information about mass gatherings during a pandemic. During Qatar Health 2022 we will have a unique opportunity to learn from global experts represented by WHO and FIFA and local experts in the field of mass gatherings and the pandemic,” said Dr. Hassan Al Thani, Head of Vascular and Trauma Surgery at HMC and Co-Chair, Qatar Health 2022 and 2nd Qatar Public Health Virtual Conference. He also called on all healthcare professionals to attend the event.
