Qatar, represented in the Civil Aviation Authority, participated in the third meeting of heads of civil aviation authorities in the Middle-East, which was held yesterday via video conference. The meeting was held to discuss the measures taken in the Middle-East to contain Covid-19 and study its operational and economic impact on the aviation sector.
The meeting also shed light on the best practices and lessons learned from the pandemic. Qatar’s delegation was chaired by President of Qatar Civil Aviation Authority Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al-Subaey. He spoke about Qatar’s experience in dealing with the pandemic, and the efforts of Qatar Airways which flew more than 175mn km to transport 2.3mn passengers home aboard 37,000 flights during the pandemic. Al-Subaey said that the national carrier recorded a new achievement after it relaunched more than half of its destinations following the restart of air transport. All these destinations were relaunched in line with the highest health and safety standards.
Hamad International Airport also obtained recently a certification by BSI for Covid-19 safety protocols. Data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) showed that Qatar led the Middle-East in aerial connections.
