Qatar orders largest number of seasonal flu vaccine; will be available free for all: MoPH Official

Doha: Qatar has ordered the largest number ever of vaccine for seasonal flu / influenza, Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health, Sheikh Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, said. 

“The vaccines for seasonal flue are expected to be available by end of next month at all health centres free of cost,” he added urging people to get vaccinated. 

Speaking to Qatar TV yesterday, Sheikh Dr Mohammed said that COVID-19 vaccines have reached legalizing stage in some countries after passing several phases of approvals. 

“As soon as an effective vaccine against coronavirus comes in the market, we will bring it to Qatar. We are in touch with four to five entities and will bring enough quantity once the tests are completed and priority will be given to the most vulnerable people in the society,” Sheikh Dr. Mohammed said. 

He said that a vaccine usually takes from 12 to 18 months to reach production but this time COVID-19 vaccines are being developed very fast thanks to the collective efforts. 

Replying about the time frame for the vaccine, he said: “We expect good news regarding coronavirus vaccine in the coming months.”
