Qatar, Indonesia enjoy historical relations at various levels

Indonesia’s ambassador to Qatar Ridwan Hassan has affirmed that his country and Qatar enjoy deep and solid historical relations at levels: political, economic, cultural, social, defence and others.

In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the Qatar National Day, the ambassador said that the two countries have had important established relations for a long time, and possess valuable opportunities to enhance co-operation and partnership in fields such as trade, tourism, investment and culture, as well as cultural and social fields.

He referred to successful Qatari investments in Indonesia such as Qatar National Bank, Nebras Power and Ooredoo, and stressed that there are many other valuable opportunities to enhance investments and increase trade exchange in the coming years.

In the cultural field, the ambassador referred to the diverse and rich cultural heritage that the two countries enjoy, which creates opportunities for co-operation.

"I would like to thank the government of Qatar for choosing Indonesia as a partner country for the Year of Culture in 2023,” he said. “I believe this appointment would put the cultural co-operation between the two countries at a higher level."

Hassan also stressed the importance of co-operation between Qatar and Indonesia at all levels, especially on environmental issues, given the common vision on how to build and develop the world, and their aspiration for a more prosperous, just and sustainable world.

Indonesia is the current president of the G20.

This momentum would and should create significant opportunities for both countries to uphold and promote multilateralism, including tackling the global coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the ambassador added.

The envoy said that Qatar is one of the most successful countries in handling the global pandemic.

He pointed out that even with the many events and conferences held in Qatar this year, this country is still able to keep the active caseload of Covid-19 very low.

“I do not doubt that Qatar will maintain and even rapidly boost its economic recovery,” Hassan added.

On Qatar’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, he said: "I think there is no doubt that Qatar would be an amazing host for the tournament.”

“This country has planned and completed enormous infrastructure projects leading towards the 2022 World Cup,” Hassan said. “It has also engaged many foreign communities to be part of the FIFA World Cup.”
