Qatar condemns Syrian regime attack on Daraa, urges protection of civilians

DOHA: The State of Qatar has condemned, in the strongest terms, the brutal attack of the Syrian regime forces on Daraa, and considered it an extension of the series of heinous crimes that the regime has been committing against the Syrian people during the past years. In a statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the horrific crimes committed by the Syrian regime in Daraa led to the displacement of dozens of families, which violates international humanitarian law and requires the international community to act urgently to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and a safe, sustainable and unhindered access to all those in need.

The Ministry reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm position to support international efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to end the Syrian crisis, in accordance with the Geneva Communique /1/ of 2012, and the relevant Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution No. 2254, which fulfils the aspirations of the Syrian people for security and stability and preserves Syria’s unity and independence.
