Qatar Chamber, OCCI review cooperation in tourism sector

Qatar Chamber yesterday hosted a delegation from the Tourism Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by the Committee Chair Ali bin Salim Al Hajari.

The meeting discussed means of enhancing cooperation and coordination between both sides and exploring investment opportunities available in both countries, as well as introducing incentives both countries offer to attract investments.

Qatar Chamber Assistant Director General for Government Relations and Committee Affairs, Ali bu Sherbak Al Mansouri said the tourism sector is a key pillar of the economy of any nation, noting that Qatar attaches this sector a special importance. 

He noted that Qatari businessmen are interested to learn about the investment opportunities in Oman and promote cooperation with Omani companies that enjoy considerable experience in this sector. On his part, Ali bin Salim Al Hajari said that the delegation’s visit aims to deepen commercial relations with Qatar in tourism, review facilities offered by both countries for businessmen willing to invest in this sector and activate communication between Omani and Qatari companies as well as exchange expertise between them in the fields of hospitality, events management and training.

Al Hajari noted that Omani government offered many incentives to attract more investments in the tourism sector such as the allocation of lands needed for tourist projects and the exemption from duties.

The Omani delegation delivered a presentation about the investment climate in the Sultanate and the most important opportunities available in tourism complexes, hotel management and hospitality and leisure events.

In line with its tourism strategy, the Sultanate has started to develop 14 tourist sites from 2016 until the final stage in 2040 in order to enhance the tourist attraction. 

The presentation also featured a number of promising projects such as Shangri-La, Muscat Port and Al Mouj Porjects.

Ahmed Al Obaidli, Director of Exhibitions Department at the National Tourism Council, gave a presentation on Qatari potentials in the field of tourism, as well as the efforts and the contributions of the private sector towards preparing for hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. 

He reviewed the most important exhibitions and conferences hosted by Qatar in recent past, noting that they have strengthened the status of Qatar in this area.
