Qatar, Azerbaijan to enhance relations in economic fields

Qatar and the Republic of Azerbaijan have agreed on the necessity of unifying joint efforts, converging viewpoints, strengthening mechanisms for regional dialogue and stabilising its bases, in order to achieve security, stability and prosperity in the region.

HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, stated in a press conference on Monday in Baku with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, that Qatar is looking forward to increasing bilateral cooperation opportunities in various fields, especially in economic and investment fields, to be at the level of ambition of the leadership of the two brotherly countries.

He extended his thanks to the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister for the warm reception and the usual hospitality of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the government and people.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered Qatar's congratulations to the Azerbaijani government and people on the anniversary of their Independence Day, which coincided with his visit , wishing Azerbaijan further progress and prosperity.

He also praised the distinguished fraternal relationship between Qatar and Azerbaijan, indicating the commitment of the leadership of the two countries to develop relations on an ongoing basis, and expressing Qatar's happiness with the remarkable development in political, commercial and economic relations between the two brotherly countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994.

HE Sheikh Mohamed hailed the joint economic, commercial and technical committee between Qatar and Azerbaijan which, since the signing of its establishment in 2016, has contributed to the development of brotherly relations between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that he discussed with his counterpart bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in all fields, and reviewed the achievements that implemented between the two countries at the political, diplomatic and economic levels in the last stage, and touched upon the latest issues and developments in the region and a number of international issues and the latest developments on the regional arena.

He said in light of international changes and developments, "we together view the security and stability of the region as a priority, and we believe that any international or regional escalation will cast a shadow over the region, which necessitates the sustainability of international dialogue and cooperation".

The minister also stressed that stability at the regional level and achieving international peace via dialogue and consolidating relations of cooperation with friendly countries are at the top of the priorities and objectives of Qatar's foreign policy, and that Qatar will strive to achieve this goal.

In turn, HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, welcomed the visiting delegation from Qatar and said that President Ilham Aliyev hosted HE Sheikh Mohamed during the official visit. Bilateral relations between the two countries and multilateral cooperation were reviewed.

Bayramov confirmed that his meeting with HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed matters of common interest and important international and regional developments, and stressed the importance of cooperation with Qatar in international issues, and pointed to the culture, values and common aspirations that unite the two countries, pointing to the discussion of cooperation issues on the international side and in international organizations.

He explained that the meeting also discussed issues of investment and trade cooperation, alternative and renewable energy, potential Qatari investments in different regions in Azerbaijan, and the agreement on mutual exemption from entry visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports between the government of Qatar and the government of Azerbaijan, which will contribute to the promotion of tourism between the two countries, in addition to the possibility of security cooperation and strengthening cooperation with regard to multilateral relations, the latest developments in the regional area and issues of common interest.

He also stressed that the meeting contributed to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing his country's aspiration to continue dialogue and coordination with Qatar, and to continue political consultations between the two countries.

Bayramov praised Qatar's supportive stance for legitimate Azerbaijani issues in international and regional organisations, and stressed the importance of maintaining the peace-building process at the regional and international levels.
