Qatar Airways offers 158 more seats per day to Cape Town

Qatar Airways has announced an increase in daily capacity to Cape Town, the popular family holiday destination in South Africa, with the introduction of a Boeing 777 serving the route from this month.

With this, there are an additional 158 seats per day from Doha to Cape Town for passengers looking to enjoy South Africa’s holiday season, the airline has said in a press statement.

Passengers from around the world and key cities such as London, Dubai, Paris, Frankfurt, Melbourne, Perth, Beijing and Hong Kong now have more opportunities to travel to Cape Town, according to the statement. Visitors can soak up the spectacular views of Table Mountain, explore beautiful scenic beaches or take up the adventurous garden route with its natural beauty and charm, attracting outdoor enthusiasts.

The airline recalled that it had been successfully serving Cape Town from its Doha hub since 2005 and started its operations with four weekly flights via Johannesburg.

“Due to popular demand, the airline has been steadily upgrading its operations to Cape Town. Qatar Airways de-linked Cape Town from Johannesburg and started operating a direct five-times-a-week service from November 2014. The airline then started operating with a full non-stop daily service to Cape Town in October 2015,” the statement noted.

The Doha-Cape Town route, which was previously served with the Boeing 787 offering 254 seats, will now be operated with the Boeing 777, which offers a total of 412 seats across Business Class and Economy Class. Passengers in every seat across both cabins will enjoy a fully interactive personal audio and video entertainment system with up to 3,000 options.

Qatar Airways senior vice-president (Africa, Middle East & Pakistan) Ehab Amin said: “Qatar Airways is anticipating increased travel to Cape Town during the busy winter travel season, and as such we are happy to provide our passengers with greater choice when they make their travel plans.”

All services from Cape Town route through Doha’s Hamad International Airport (HIA), which features more than 70 shops and 30 restaurants, a 100-room hotel, a spa -including a 25m indoor swimming pool, squash courts and gymnasium.

The daily flight schedule is as follows: QR1369 departing Doha at 2.45am and arriving in Cape Town at 11.30am, and QR1370 departing Cape Town at 12.50pm and arriving in Doha at 11.20pm.
