Prime Minister opens ‘2022’ building

The 2022 building was unveiled at Aspire Zone today by the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani to coincide with Qatar’s winning the bid to host the FIFA 2022 World Cup.

The building stands out due to its unique design in the shape of numerals 2022.

The 60-thousand-square-metre mixed-use building includes administrative offices, integrated health club, restaurants and cafes as well as meeting rooms and a lecture theater.

The building consists of four wings of five floors each.

After displaying a short film about the development of sports and sports facilities in Qatar, the Prime Minister listened to a brief explanation on the connotations of the design of the building and its sections, as it is the first building in the world designed in the form of 2022.

The inauguration coincides with the ninth anniversary of Qatar’s winning the right to organize the World Cup for the first time in the Middle East region.

Al Bandari is the main contractor for the project and Laura International is the developer.

Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, who came up with the idea for the building, said: “December 2 marks a great day in the history of Qatar as it was the day when our beloved country received the hosting rights of the World Cup. During my studies abroad, I was following (Sepp) Blatter (then FIFA Chief) as he pulled out the name of Qatar from the envelope in 2010 and since then began to think about setting up of a project that will be a legacy of the state and future generations.”

He said this unique project would not have been possible had it not been for the state's support for the Qatari investor and for our confidence in the Qatari economy.

Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, CEO of Aspire Zone, said the Foundation always supports investors and presents them with investment opportunities. “The idea of the 2022 building project was one among them and also a unique project.”
