Doha, Qatar: The seasonal hot, intense, dry wind known locally as 'Simoom' has commenced today and will persist for two weeks, according to Qatar Calendar House (QCH).
'Simoom,' which impacts most of the Arabian Peninsula, is characterized by very hot and dry winds that stir up sand and dust, typically accompanied by rising temperatures. It is one of the most well-known monsoon winds in the region. QCH stated that this condition will continue until July 29.
The term 'Simoom' is derived from the harmful effects it has on plants and humans. The extreme conditions can cause visibility issues and may also result in sunstroke due to the intense heat.
