PHCC to open four health centres this year: report

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is set to open four primary health centres this year ahead of the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November, an official source at the PHCC has told local Arabic daily 'Arrayah'. Three of these are new health centres -- Al Mashaf, Umm Al Seneem and Al Sadd -- while the current Al Khor HC will be replaced with a new one. These are currently in the furnishing and equipping phase, in addition to allotment of the necessary workforce and staff members. The openings will take the total number of PHCC health centres to 31, located in different parts of the country.

The source noted that such expansion works are part of the PHCC's strategy to increase the number of facilities and enhance health services in the country, as well as to make such services easily accessible to people at a place close to where they live. According to 'Arrayah', the source said the explansion plan also includes replacing existing health centres with new ones, including Umm Ghuwailina and Madinat Khalifa, in addition to setting up the Bani Hajer and Nuaija HCs. These are scheduled for 2025.

Besides, work is under way to prepare Muaither health centre to provide dialysis services, wherein a particular part of the HC will be developed to provide this service through Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). This service is currently available at three health centres: Al Ruwais, Al Sheehaniya and Al Wakra, also through HMC.

PHCC will develop existing HCs in addition to creating new health centres in co-operation with the Public Works Authority to make sure that the old health centres keep pace with the development in services and increase in the number of clinics. After the new health facilities and building are received from Ashghal, all related systems and official licensing certificates are checked by the PHCC. Immediately after that, the furnishing and equipping of new centres start in preparation for opening them -- a process that could approximately take from two to three months.

There is a special committee in charge of this process, and it supplies new centres with the necessary medical equipment and staff in co-ordination with all the departments concerned at PHCC. The new centres also undergo an experimental operation phase for at least one week to ensure that all the systems are working effectively. After the official opening of a new health centre, a public questionnaire is prepared to review the opinions and remarks of inhabitants of the area about its performance and all the services offered there. All such remarks are taken into consideration accordingly.
