Partial lunar eclipse tomorrow to be visible in Qatar: QCH

The people in Qatar will witness a lunar eclipse during the full Moon phase of Hijri month Dhul-Qa’da 1440 AH.

The eclipse will continue from Tuesday evening to the early hours of Wednesday, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced.

The last lunar eclipse of this year will be partial, as the shadow of the Earth will obscure 65.3% of the entire Moon disc at its peak.

This is because the centre of the Moon, the earth and the Sun will be on one straight line so the Earth will be in the middle between the Sun and the Moon, blocking part of the Sun falling on the Moon, QCH astronomer Dr Beshir Marzouk said.

The eclipse will be visible throughout almost of Asia, Europe, Africa, South America and North America.

Qatar residents will have a chance to see all phases of this lunar eclipse.

All stages of this eclipse will take five hours and 34 minutes from the beginning of the eclipse to the end.

The Moon will begin to cross from the semi-shadow region (not visible to the naked eye) at 9.44pm.

The partial phase of the eclipse begins at 11.02pm. The eclipse will reach its peak after Wednesday midnight in 31 minutes and will end at 2am.

The last phase of the eclipse will end at 3.18am local time, Marzouk added.
