Over 90% attendance in private schools, KGs since resumption of classes

The attendance of students in private schools and kindergartens (KGs) has exceeded 90% since the resumption of in-person classes at full capacity on January 30, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has said.

In a statement Wednesday, the ministry said its Private Education Affairs Sector continues with its field and inspection visits to various schools and private kindergartens in order to check the progress of the educational process and follow up on the academic and administrative aspects.

The checks are also aimed at following up on the application of precautionary and preventive measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and provide a healthy and safe educational environment for students and staff, the statement noted.

Meanwhile, students expressed their happiness at returning to school after attending online classes for a few weeks since the start of the second semester of the 2021-2022 academic year.

The visits by the MoEHE included Nebras International Kindergarten, Newton British School (Muraikh), Maghreb International School, Shakespeare International Academy and Edison International Academy (Al Markhiya).

These visits were conducted by the assistant undersecretary for Private Education Affairs, Omar Abdulaziz al-Naama, and director of Private School Affairs Rashid al-Amri.

They discussed different points of view on every issue that would enhance the educational process in private schools and visited classrooms and various school facilities. They also spoke to students and their teachers, who expressed happiness at the resumption of classes.

In-person learning with 100% attendance resumed in public and private schools as well as kindergartens across the country on Sunday. The MoEHE had earlier stressed that schools and kindergartens were fully prepared to receive students while taking all precautionary and preventative measures against Covid-19 and providing a safe environment for everyone.

A rapid antigen test has to be conducted on a weekly basis at home for all students of public and private schools and kindergartens, across all grades.

Only a negative result will enable them to enter the building, provided the test takes place within a maximum of 48 hours before returning to school.

If a student’s test result is positive, s/he must visit the nearest health centre to confirm the result.

If it is confirmed that s/he is infected with the virus, s/he must follow the established health isolation procedure, and attend classes through the distance learning system, if the student’s health condition permits this.
