Doha: Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri met yesterday with a delegation of the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), headed by Chairperson of the Sports Committee H E Marc Tarabella, who is currently visiting the country, at the headquarters of the Committee.
Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri extended thanks to the delegation for accepting NHRC’s invitation to visit the State of Qatar, commending the strong partnership between NHRC and the European Parliament, as the NHRC in Qatar is the first of its kind to sign a memorandum of understanding with the European Parliament.
Al Marri affirmed the Committee’s continued efforts to strengthen the human rights system in Qatar, in addition to implementing the national human rights strategy and sustaining dialogue between NHRC and the European Parliament in all aspects related to human rights.
He provided the delegation with an overview of the most important developments in the field of human rights, especially workers’ rights, in terms of legislation and mechanisms introduced by the State.
