New SC website showcases community role in World Cup

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has launched a new website dedicated to the work of the Community Engagement Division.

A key legacy initiative, Community Engagement “runs a vast range of major projects that utilise the local sense of pride in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup to engage and involve communities in shaping the tournament and delivering the legacy”, according to a report on sc.qa

These include youth ambassador programmes to engage young people aged eight to 21 years who are passionate about the 2022 FIFA World Cup, culture and sports initiatives, a volunteering programme and community partnerships with local influencers.

The new portal provides information about each project, along with details on how people across Qatar can get involved with the various initiatives. There are also useful links to community organisations, partners and schools involved in the projects to ensure the public are connected with the community enablers who support the SC’s work.

The site will also contain the latest Community Engagement news in an easy-to-read manner that is both accessible and shareable, the report states.

Khalid al-Jumaily, the SC’s Community Engagement manager, said the microsite would make it easier for residents to participate in projects organised by the SC and learn about the work being delivered.

“The World Cup is the biggest event in Qatar’s history and will be talked about for generations to come,” said al-Jumaily. “It’s a unique opportunity to show the world the best of the Middle East and will be a catalyst for a bright future.

“Our objective is to make everyone in Qatar feel a part of this tournament and our new microsite will make it easier than ever before for people to engage with our projects.

“It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what you do for a living – we believe everyone in Qatar is an ambassador for our tournament and a part of this special journey.”

One of the key features of the website is the ‘Activity Finder’. This tool will help visitors search for events they’re interested in taking part in.

There will also be videos, photographs and infographics that will make it easy for the public to see what has been happening and celebrate the achievements being delivered in their communities.

Besides, there will be downloadable material allowing schools, youth groups and others to utilise the SC’s assets for their own purposes.

Al-Jumaily added, “We hope everyone will visit the new site and find out more about our various projects. We look forward to engaging with thousands more people on the road to 2022.”
