Municipalities issue 532 building permits in July

Municipalities in Qatar issued 532 building permits during July, a 28% decline from June's 734, figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority showed.

Data showed the largest decrease in the number of licences was in Al Shamal municipality, which recorded a decline of about 54%, then Al Da'ayen 42%, Al Wakra 39, Al Rayyan 37%, Umm Salal 24%, Al Khor 23%, while Doha recorded an increase of 14% and Al Sheehaniya did not witness any significant change last month.

According to geographical distribution, Doha municipality comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 145 permits, 27% of the total issued permits, while Al Rayyan municipality came in the second place with 138 permits (26%), followed by Al Da'ayen with 88 permits (17%), Al Wakrah with 80 permits (15%).

The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Salal 35 permits (7%), Al Khor 24 permits (5%), Al Sheehaniya 16 permits (3%), and finally Al Shamal 6 permits (1%).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 45% (238 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of July 2021, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 52% (274 permits), and finally fencing permits with 4% (20 permits). As for new residential buildings permits data, villas top the list, accounting for 73% (154 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 15% (31 permits) and apartments buildings by 10% (21 permits). Commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 50% (14 permits), followed by governmental buildings and mosques with 18% (5 permits) each.

Meanwhile, municipalities issued 282 building completion certificates during July, a decrease of 19% compared to 347 in June.

This decrease was clearly noted in most of the municipalities: Al Shamal (83%), Al Daayen (59%), Um Salal (50%), Al Rayyan (15%), Doha (6%). On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Al Khor (111%), Al Sheehaniya (23%) and Al Wakra (4%).

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
