MoCI shuts down two retail outlets

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced the closure of two retail outlets in Umm Lekhba and Laboir City for violating its circulars regarding precautionary and preventative measures put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), and for failing to meet general and special requirements.

In a statement yesterday, the MoCI said these measures come as part of its “keen efforts to monitor and regulate markets and commercial activities across Qatar, monitor the degree of compliance with laws and regulations governing commercial activities, and follow up on compliance with the ministry’s circulars regarding precautionary and preventative measures”.

The ministry has stressed that it will neither tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No 5 of 2015 on Commercial, Industrial and Similar Public Shops, and Street Vendors, nor allow violation of the circulars regarding precautionary and preventive measures to preserve public health.

Further, the ministry has said it will intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices.

Any party who violates laws and ministerial decisions will be referred to the competent authorities, who will take appropriate measures against the violators to protect consumer rights.

The MoCI has also urged all citizens and residents to report any violations or infractions related to registration and commercial licensing, or non-compliance with preventative and precautionary measures, through the call centre: 16001, Twitter: @MOCIQATAR, and Instagram: MOCIQATAR.

The ministry had recently announced the closure of several retail outlets across Qatar, including a gymnasium in The Pearl-Qatar, a retail outlet in Abu Hamour, a cafe in Souq Waqif, and three commercial companies in Al Wakrah, Ain Khaled and Old Airport, for violating the ministry’s circulars regarding the precautionary and preventative measures put in place to confront the Covid-19 and for failing to meet general and special requirements.

Before that, the ministry had announced the closure of a women’s accessories store in Al Markhiya, a car wash on Salwa Road, and a cafe in Al Duhail for similar violations.
