Ministry receives over 20,000 requests for correcting status during grace period

oha: The Ministry of Interior has so far received more than 20,000 requests from workers after the grace period for correcting the status of expatriates was announced on October 10, 2021.

The Ministry is expecting an increase in turnout after the announcement of 50 percent reduction in the settlement amount. The grace period is valid till December 31, 2021.

Speaking today in a webinar explaining the procedures of the "Grace Period for correcting the status of expatriates who violated the provisions of law No. 21/2015 that regulates the entry, exit and residence of expatriates", Captain Mohamed Ali Al Al Rashid said that domestic workers (housemaids) are not included in this initiative.

More than 200 people from different communities attended the webinar today. 

The event is being organized by the Search and Follow Up Department and the Unified Services Department of the Ministry of Interior.

No application will be accepted from the violator or the person against whom a ‘leaving work’ compliant has been filed after the announcing the grace period starting from October 10, 2021, said Captain Al Rashed.

About the process to be followed at MoI, he explained that “Filled form should be submitted at any of the five service centers - Umm Sulal Services Center, Umm Sunaim Services Center, Musaimeer Services Center, Al Wakra Services Center and Al Rayyan Services Center.”

The application will be decided within 5 working days if all the specified conditions are met.
