Ministry aims to increase enrolment in pre-school, KG

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) aims to increase the enrolment rate of children aged 4-5 years in early childhood education programmes in kindergarten and pre-school.

It also seeks to increase the enrolment rate of students with disabilities, aged 4-18 years, in the general education system, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

These are two of the key objectives included in the ministry's strategic plan for 2018-2022, on which HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi made a presentation during the regular Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

After HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani chaired the meeting at the Amiri Diwan, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi issued a statement giving the details of the proceedings.

The presentation on the MoEHE's strategy for 2018-2022 was in accordance with the "directives of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior regarding the Cabinet's plans to present key performance indicators for different public organisations and institutions in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, including public-private partnerships", QNA said.

"The vision of the ministry will be to take leadership in providing sustainable and innovative access to education that benefits the Qatari society. The ministry's message will be to regulate high-quality education of all stages, with the goal of developing the skills of individuals in the Qatari society in line with their abilities, as well as with the national values and needs," the report said. "The main goal of the ministry will be to oversee a world-class education system that provides fair opportunities to access high-quality education, provides students with the necessary skills to reach their potential and achieve their ambitions, while reinforcing the values of the Qatari society and promoting the value of tolerance and respecting other cultures."

The strategy covers a number of axes (enrolment; achievement and implementation; manpower; citizenship and values; and institutional development and governance), as well as intermediate results and goals.

Regarding enrolment, the focus is on providing "equitable opportunities for all learners to enrol in high-quality educational programmes".
