Lekhwiya commander visits GCC centre to combat drugs

HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and Commander of Lekhwiya Force Major-General Abdulaziz bin Faisal al-Thani underlined the importance of international co-operation to confront the security challenges in all areas, especially in the fields of combating the organised crime, in light of the rapid development of the methods used by criminal gangs and their use of modern technologies.

During his visit to the Doha-based GCC-Criminal Information Centre to Combat Drugs, HE Major-General Abdulaziz bin Faisal al-Thani was briefed about the centre's efforts, activities and achievements in combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and the center's efforts to co-ordinate co-operation between the control agencies in member states to carry out joint operations and investigations, in addition to conducting analytical studies of the drug problem, training cadres in member states, organising seminars and workshops and exchanging information between member states and relevant regional centers and organizations.

He said that his visit comes in the framework of Qatar's keenness on supporting the centre and contributing to strengthening its capabilities to achieve the desired objectives, aiming at securing and protecting the region and the GCC society from the scourge of drugs. HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and Commander of Lekhwiya Force praised the constant attention paid by the GCC General Secretariat to achieve progress, security and stability aspired by the GCC countries.

For his part, Director of the GCC-Criminal Information Center to Combat Drugs Brigadier Saqr Rashid al-Muraikhi commended the support provided by Qatar which has effective and importance contribution to achieving the goals accomplished, overcoming difficulties and harnessing all capabilities to enhance the position of the Center on the regional and international arenas.
