Katara set to host Qatar National Sport Day celebrations

Katara – the Cultural Village is set to host National Sport Day (NSD) celebrations today, with visitors able to participate in activities that will be held between 8am and 4pm in the southern area, Katara Hills and on the beach.

Katara, in an official press statement on Monday, said the activities will be held in co-operation with nearly 30 private and government agencies, sports federations and health institutions.

“Katara has prepared for its visitors a full sports and entertainment programme and a variety of events. The activities will be held in accordance with the requirements of all groups and ages, with the aim of promoting awareness of the importance of practising sports, raising the level of fitness and capabilities, spreading its culture among all members of society, and consolidating it as way of life,” the statement noted.

Katara has designated three areas for various sports and other activities. These are the southern area, the beach and Katara Hills. The Qatar Basketball Federation will have its activities on the southern side of Katara while karate, cycling and various other games will be hosted at different spots.

The Katara Hills area will be dedicated to marathons, walking, aerobics and fitness classes while the Katara beach will receive visitors to practise water and beach games.

Besides, services such as sports examinations, awareness and health instructions will be provided to visitors on the occasion.

Katara has invited sports enthusiasts to join and participate in its distinguished celebration of the National Sport Day and urged them to take advantage of the various facilities and vast green spaces.

The activities will be held while taking the Covid-19 precautionary measures into account.
